Rename Photos in Sequence Online

Give 20, 200 or more photos predictable names such as photo-001.jpg, photo-002.jpg and photo-003.jpg. Choose their order visually, preview every name, then download renamed copies. Free, no signup, no upload.

How to number photos in the right order

  1. Choose photos or an existing folder; you can also explore the interface using the included sample SVG images.
  2. Set a short descriptive prefix, a starting number, and a digit count. Three-digit numbering keeps names in file-manager order for a batch of 200.
  3. Choose original name, last modified date, supported EXIF capture date, or drag the photo thumbnails to manually decide their order.
  4. Review the names and any collision or invalid-name warnings. Download the renamed ZIP and verify it before deleting or replacing originals.

Manual slideshow order

When a slideshow must follow a story, drag the thumbnails into that order before numbering. Your output names sort consistently even in a simple file viewer.

Capture time vs modified time

A file modification timestamp can change during transfers or editing. The optional EXIF sort reads supported JPEG capture-date metadata, but other formats or photos without a date fall back to the modified timestamp.

Frequently asked questions

How do I rename 200 photos with sequential numbers?

Select the photos or a folder, sort by name or date or drag the thumbnails into your preferred order, set a prefix such as photo-, and export photo-001 through photo-200 in a ZIP.

Can I choose the order before applying numbers?

Yes. Reorder thumbnails by dragging their handles. The first photo gets the starting number, followed by the remaining photos in order.

Does it use the photo capture date?

Where a supported JPEG EXIF capture date can be read, use EXIF date sorting. For photos with no supported EXIF capture date, the file's modified date is used; check the order before exporting.

Are the photo files uploaded?

No. Preview, metadata reading, numbering, and ZIP generation are performed in the browser. Your originals stay unchanged.

Does renaming convert my images?

No. A file's extension and contents are preserved; only its name changes in the exported copy.
